***BEFORE: With Velcro***
***AFTER: with Poppers***
I purchased some used Bumgenius Nappies from ebay for a couple of ££’s, i got them cheap because the seller stated that these nappies are, “very well used!”. Well anyone who knows me, knows i love my bargains, so the very used nappy statement from the seller didnt put me off in the slightest, untill well when i recieved them :/. I instantly noticed that the velcro was literally useless, it wouldnt velcro and stay together!, it was clogged up with lots of thread and fluff so i thought ah ha, ill remove that with my seam ripper. So i did and it still didnt velcro hmmm… So Plan B! Ive got absolutely loads of KAM snaps which are identical in size and quality to that of what Bumgenius use so thought, right ill sort this by just removing the Velcro and replacing with Poppers and here is how i did it 🙂
Here the Velcro tabs which were discoloured, curled and not very grippy.
See how much the tabs curled up over.
The laundry Tab on the left is totally buggered! the Velcro Tabs use this bit to secure to while washing your nappies and if the laundry tabs cant keep hold of the Velcro tabs then when washing the tabs will stick to anything and everything and can cause damage to other items in the wash.
Front Belly velcro again is discoloured but still usuable if i just wished to replace the Tabs.
Use your seam ripper to carefully unpick the thread that secures the Velcro to the nappy, Now be extra careful when doing this, as you deffo dont want to be ripping your Nappy outer.
Front Belly velcro has now been removed.
Now the Laundry Tabs and Side Tabs are removed. You could leave the Laundry tabs where they were but the ones on this particular nappy were scratchy around the edges and i didnt want them scratching my babies bum/back.
De-Bobbler… I love this clever little tool, i purchased this from Poundland for £1.00 and it uses 2x AA batteries and basically it harmlessly removes those bobbles on fabric which occurs through wear, by using this, it makes the fabric appear new again.
Heres how my De-Bobbling Tool works… Left Nappy Tab is Before and the right Tab is when ive used my De-Bobbler, as you can see it looks alot neater and newer. It takes literally seconds to remove the bobbles. If you dont have one of these and dont fancy buying one (although i recommend you do lol) you can use a Old Razor very carefully of course to remove the bobbles.
Using my template i marked the position of the poppers.
Use your AWL tool which is a very sharp pointy metal thing that comes with the KAM Snap Press.
You will need 1x Cap and 1x Snap for 1 Popper.
Place your Cap through the hole and place the snap ontop of the cap, on the inside of the nappy.
By using your Kam Pliers, Press Both Snaps securely in place
The Caps should be on the outside of the nappy. Continue the same process onto the other side.
Heres my Template, for putting the poppers on the front belly part. I found making a Card Template and measuing out the popper positions, would be more precise/perfect and easier in the long run to mark the nappies by just placing it on the front, putting a pen through the holes and marking the fabric. Quick and Precise!
All done 🙂
I also Decided to change the Elastic in my Nappies, Click here to view my Tutorial on how to do this 🙂
